I selected Jodi Picoult because I feel that I can relate to some of the things that she writes about. She makes me feel like I am living in what that I am reading, that I am a witness to what is going on in the story. It takes a lot for me to be really into a book, to want to keep reading. Even just reading the first page of a Jodi Picoult book instantly gets me hooked. I would love to meet Jodi Picoult one day, it would be an honor because she is the first author that I really made a connection with.
I would like to know how Jodi Picoult comes up with the topic of her storys. I wonder if she has been through the experiences that she writes about or if people have told her experiences and she writes about them or even if she just thinks different things up. Either way she does and amazing job of creating a really solid story. The storys that Jodi Picoult writes about seem like they are things that have happened in her life or someone else so I would really like to find out if my assumption is right or wrong.
In the book Lone Wolf the character that caught my attention is a 17 year old girl named Cara, she is the daughter of Luke Warren and Georgie Ng. One night Cara is out at a party and decides to drink and she calls her dad. While driving back home they get in a car crash and her father ends up in a coma and she feels like its her fault. While he is in a coma her brother who lives in Thailand, he moved there when he turned 18, came home and hasn't talked to his father in over 6 years, with a lot of tests the doctors figure out that there is a very slim chance that Caras father would ever wake up. Cara never gives up she doesn't want to think that her father is going to die or that he is very sick, but Edward Caras brother knows that he's not going to recover and wants to pull the plug.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the entire story Cara never gives up she believes that her father is going to be okay, but nobody will listen to her because she is only 17 and legally she has to be 18 to have a voice about her father. She never gives up hope and i find that inspirational that she loved someone so much that she didn't want to give up hope no matter what the doctors said. I connect with Cara because she is the same age as me and I would fight just as much as she did if I believed that much that someone I loved would wake up. Cara fought more then anyone else I know, I would fight just as hard and I think that's why I like and care for Cara. She reminds me of me.
Jodi Picoult's style of writing is very unique. She knows how to write both for the teenage genre and also adult genre. It amazes me that she can do both styles of writing in one book. She knows how to connect to all audiences with her writing. She tends to use bigger words but they are understandable they aren't words that I've never heard of. Jodi Picoult writes in different view points and I think that is why I like the way she writes, she knows how to mix it up without confusing the reader. Sometimes there is a lot of dialogue and sometimes there isn't it depends on the point of view that she is using or the character. Because of the way that she writes the mood and tone of the story always changes.
ReplyDeleteFor my author study Visual I was planning on making a poster, I want to make it very girly but yet serious because Jodi Picoult writes both girly stories and very serious very real stories. I am planning on putting my question on the poster along with why I picked Jodi Picoult and also the books that I read. I want to put the answer to my question on the poster. I want to put some information as to what her life was like and what inspired her to start writing and what she has experienced throughout her writing career. I am really hoping that this will work out the way I want it too.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think there were many pros to the author study. It did help a little bit to help me become a better reader because it made me think about what the author thinks about when writing and why they choose to write about what they did. I do really enjoy reading but I don't like having to do a project on it that I didn't understand to begin with. I don't think that it helped me communicate with other readers at all.
ReplyDeleteThe positive thing about learning about the specific author was that I did find out a lot about her and it was good to know because it made me like her even more. Considering that I didn't even really care about the project it didn't help with my organization skills at all.
