I chose to read this authors work
because of its relation to my childhood and because of how descriptive and in
depth his work is. The whole Halo book series of his reminds me of the summer
days and nights of when I was a child, staying up for nights on end playing
with friends and my brothers. The Resistance series I am currently reading
reminds me of all the times when I we would play dumb games outside like
manhunt or air soft, making sure not to be seen whilst hiding from everyone. This
author creates books out of some of the best video games I’ve ever played,
recreating the worlds in your mind with more description of your surroundings
than you’ve ever experienced within the video game. It gives resolve to all the
unanswered questions of the video games. The description within the video game
resistance is supremely enhanced when it comes to the amazingly crafted books
giving you images of blood, death, gore, survival, struggle, and so many more
things including love and romance. This is an all-around amazing book.
Within his many works he switches
perspectives a lot, giving you a look at everyone’s view of the story and
creating a more in depth storyline giving each person a different mission which
is ultimately going to achieve the same goal of saving the world. But I’d love
to know why he doesn’t switch between as many peoples perspectives in his book Resistance: The Gathering Storm like he
does within his Halo series and the other Resistance book. It just seems like
its only switched between three people in this book instead of a lot more which
would create a whole labyrinth of story lines making the book a lot longer and
even more interesting (if that’s possible, its already amazing) than it is now.
Within the book Resistance: a Hole in The Sky, the main character whose point of view you read about and mentally experienced is none other than Capellie. Capellie is former military personnel who became a runner (people who deliver packages for a monetary reward) shortly after the fall out of the safeness of the united states. He is a noble man who would do anything and travel as far as he had to make the delivery, as long as the reward was good of course. But none the less he is a kind hearted yet war torn individual who still has a lot more fight left in him. In the beginning of the book our hero can be seen with a dog who has been his partner since the fall out, now this dog is commonly referred to as a comrade or a partner because Capellie does not claim ownership for him, saying that the dog does what he wants so i do not own him. This same dog comes and goes within the story making sure to come back at the most perfect of times in order to keep his "partner" safe and secure. but then there is another girl who pops up, now theirs a conflict between these two that doesn't become apparent to the girl at first which is a big deal. She goes on to talk about her brother who was killed in the military while testing a new version of the chimeran "drug" which makes you heal faster. Well now's a good time to mention that everyone in the military wants Capellie dead because he shot Hale in the back of the head, who just happens to be her brother. He shot hale because Hale was "turning', he was getting overtaken by the drug and needed to be put down but everyone else just saw it as murder instead of saving the base.Capellie is a good and humble man none the less.
ReplyDeleteAt this point in time within the confines of the books pages Hale has been sent to a near by recruitment base which doesn't "play by the rules". Now that's a fun way to say that they don't really like military personnel because of the way they operate things. The rogue group of militants think the military should be going after the chimera, not just playing defense, waiting for the chimera to strike isn't the way of the militia. So Hale is in for the hardest disguise he has to pull off. He has to act non-military, that being difficult for Hale seeing as he has been a part of the military for more than six years. He then has to infiltrate the base an try to find two people who had defected from the military, those people have been wanted for abandonment and treason.
ReplyDeleteHale got within the base, this made him feel safer having passed the singular test and few questions which he endured with ease. He then had to start trying to locate the the personnel which he did happen upon one of them but then got side tracked. Hale had gotten noticed by a certain person who to his surprise remembered him from their childhood. Now you might think of this to be a good thing, like a reuniting or something. But that wasn't the fact, her name was Susan, she was Hales sister who thought hale was dead since that's what the military made her and Hales parents think, she then proceeded to dismantle his disguise because she was mad and upset at him as well as very confused on how he was still alive. Now this lead to Hale getting knocked out with the butt of an M1 Carbine to which he was awoken with a bucket of cold water, he was strung up on a plank of wood where he would get asked questions and get whipped when he didn't provide the answer they were looking for. This went of for a good thirty minutes before Susan who was seemingly held in pretty high regard seeing as she got the whipping and questions to stop. But not before asking some of her own about how he was alive, where he was, what was happening, and so on.
William C. Dietz is a very descriptive writer who excels in gore and violence. Even in the most subtle and nonchalant moments he finds a way to be as descriptive as possible all while still being subtle. All of the books he has written are about video games in which theirs lot of fighting and struggling to survive but that doesn't cut down on the amount of romance, sex, and feelings portrait in the amazing books. All the books have a lot of dialog between characters making switches between first and the more common third person.
ReplyDeleteWithin the worlds that are imagined with every sentence of text the mood of it can change drastically making for a really interesting storyline that is sure to trap any reader in the imagined worlds created by the amazing dialog and text.
I will be presenting my research in the form of a prezi, this will portray my project in the sort of fashion that I can make the transition into a back ground being a bullet being fired to symbolize the war aspects of what his writing is about. On each section of the presentation the background can be another book that he has written. The information on said place can represent the book and what it was about, they can also represent how it correlates to the main question being, "Why are all your books based on war?"
ReplyDeleteEach place will delve into the books of what they talk about. They are also gonna talk about what i went through to get to the information i have and also explain how i got in contact with Will and how the conversations went. That is how i shall present my project. P.S. - it'll be a little gory.
Throughout this experience i have been reading more and more everyday that we read in class. Its become enjoyable to me. To have another way of "getting away" from reality into the fun and entertaining environment of the war torn chimeran overtakers world once called earth. this place is a struggle for life and a struggle to keep sane thoughts within your head rather than keep the crazy out. To have a place like this and like my video games that are so much fun and very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the creation of the project i have been reading William C.Dietz, this made me interested in everything resistance and war and just video games in general. I would get lost in a world all my own, the chimeran earth that struggles to keep itself together. William is a very accomplished writer and has plenty of talent to make resistance books forever (i wish he would) but the series came to a conclusion after only two fantastic books. This made room for him to make more books of his own creation.
